How to Play Around the World Darts

Around the world is one of the best dart games for practice for any dartist. If you are facing trouble making an accurate throw toward the numbers, this game might help you. Playing around the world can improve the accuracy and consistency of your scoring. It is a game that aims for all the numbers on the dartboard. So there is no chance that you remain weak in any specific area. That’s why this game is also known as ‘Around the clock’ or ‘Around the board.’ 

Whether a beginner or an expert, you will enjoy every throw. 

How to play Around the World Dart Game 

Number of players

Any number of players can play the game. You can play it solo or play it with a dozen of friends. 

Object of the game

Every segment should be hit in numerical order. Every player can throw three times in each turn. The player who can hit 1 through 20 in order, followed by the bullseye, will win the game. 

General rules 

There is no scoring in the game. At first, you need to fix the players’ order, who will throw after one. Each player will get three darts for each turn. When it is your turn, you should focus on aiming for segment 1. After a successful throw, you will go for segment 2, then 3. 

You can hit any portion of the number- larger single, double ring or triples. Doubles or triples won’t add extra points. You just need to hit every segment in a sequence. After hitting segment 20, it’s time to hit the bullseye to complete the game. 

You will be the champ if you can hit all the numbers first. 

What if you miss a number? 

You can not move to the next number until you hit the current segment. Suppose you have thrown for 6 and got it. The next dart should aim for 7. But if it is missed anyhow, you have to aim for 7 again with your third dart. 

Variations of Around the World Dart Game

Around the world is a classic game. Besides the standard rule, people also play it in different ways to spice up the game. Here are some common variations of around the world.

1. Chase the Dragon

In this game, you don’t need to hit 1 through 20. Only the open numbers to hit are 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and the outer and inner bullseye. 

You have to be a bit careful when chasing the dragon compared to around the world. Because you can move to the next number only after hitting the triple of the current segment. That means you only have to hit the triples of the open numbers. 

For a beginner, it may seem tough but you can play it to practice your consistency. To win, you need a little expertise in throwing

2. Chase the ‘Other’ Dragon

Like the ‘Chase the dragon’, some specific numbers are open to play instead of 1 to 20. You need to play for 10 to 20 and the inner and outer bullseye.  

In this game, you can move forward by hitting the doubles. Singles or triples are for no use. Experts can really enjoy the game so much. Don’t forget to maintain the sequence. 

3. Dr Darts’ Round the Board

This is the simplest variation of around the world. 1 through 20 segments are open to play. Each segment is worth 1 point. You will get three darts for each number. Doubles or triples won’t add any extra points.

Suppose you are aiming for 5 in this turn. If you hit all your three darts at 5, you will get 3 points. In this way, you get the highest points of 60 in this game. Any beginner can find it interesting. 

4. Shanghai

When you hit a single, double and triple of a number in a single turn, it is called Shanghai. 

Shanghai is another popular variation of the Around the World dart game. This game is also played like the standard rules with an additional twist. Here the open numbers are 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7.  

The rule of Shanghai is to go for the numbers in a sequence. You will get three darts for each segment.

Suppose you are playing for 1. You can throw three darts when it is your turn. If all the darts can aim perfectly, you will get 1+1+1= 3. Again when you aim for 7 and all the throws land perfectly, you will add 7+7+7= 21. In this way, the score goes up. 

To win, you should score as much as you can or you can win instantly by scoring a Shanghai.
